2009 & 2011 (2nd attempt!)

Same pose.
Same stroller.
Same Mommy.
(although perhaps slightly slimmer-faced in the lower one? :))
Different baby!
(I'm sorry for these somewhat repetitive posts on how similar the girls look - but I'm always surprised by it myself and love to share all that I think about. ;-D)

Yeah. So...

In case I forgot to mention: we went to Arizona - had a blast - and now we're home. Sigh.
A glimpse of a couple family members in warmer times... :)
(doesn't Peyton look so grown-up???)

Where Did February Go? (it got buried under all that snow, I guess...)

Helloooo!

Tenley is napping and Peyton is enjoying her daily dose of the Mickey Mouse Club - so I've literally got about 8 minutes to give a quick update.

We got through the family's second round of colds last week. Not as scary as the first: no hospitalizations now that Tenley can actually turn her head to cough. It made for some grumpy days with Peyton - who one day told Kurt, "I feel crummy, Daddy." Truer words were never spoken. She used up almost a whole bottle of childrens Advil - but the drippy nose has finally stopped. So glad that's over... and praying spring will quickly arrive! (Hard to imagine with the 6-foot snow pile by the driveway - but a girl can hope, right?)

Speaking of snow: I won't say this often because I am severely lacking storage space: but I am very thankful we don't have a basement this year. When all that snow starts to melt, I don't have to worry about getting a sump pump in gear. That said: we might just up and float away in this-here trailer... but that's another trial for another day. ;)

These days find me working on being a good mom. And I don't mean that lightly. I ordered the book "Don't Make Me Count to Three" a few weeks ago. The first 3 chapters have already just reinforced to me what a major responsibility it is to be these girl's mommy. Needless to say, feeling that has caused me to seek out God more: making a daily time to read and pray for me (ahem!) them. ;)

I've cut waaay back on facebook and (duh.) blogging time. We've been baking and doing laundry and singing and dancing the days away. We're currently working on perfecting Usher's amazing leg-jives from the video "DJ's got us falling in love." (I did not claim that everything were were doing was profitable.)

We're not going stir crazy yet - but when we get close I enforce the non-optional nap time. It's good to be the boss. (Baa-ha-ha.)

And... (3 minutes left)... it's cold. Super-cold. Even by middle-Saskatchewan standards. -36 this morning. (-32.8 F) before windchill.

That's crazy cold.

Kurt has to haul pigs today - so I'm praying he and they all stay safe and warm as they travel. I'm also thanking the Lord for a furnace that is running consistently (albeit often!) - and a vent right by my feet as I type.

I have to admit that I'm counting down the days until we leave this vast and barren land for the hot version of it down south. Arizona, here we come! :) T-minus 17 days until departure...

Okay - must run - but a picture before I depart!Baba (my dad's mom) made Tenley's toque and mittens - and Peyton wanted to be part of the picture, too. It's winter, people - look at my kids! :)

Ack! Tenley is crying in the other room: short and sweet. Talk to you sometime within the next month or so soon!

Define "Soon"?

Geez... time kinda got away from me there.
I'm sorry! :) (and thanks for the nudge, Debby!)

Without further adieu, I present "Hawaii - 2010" (cue tropical music!)

If you click anywhere it should let you see the slideshow bigger. I think. :)
Enjoy - and thanks for your patience.

Debby.

;-D (I love ya, girl...)

Home Again

And here I sit in front of the computer for a moment waiting for my coffee to brew so I can drink it out of my Starbucks Hawaii mug. I never actually got anything there in Hawaii - but it was the best mug I found. :)

Lest I miss the ocean too much, God arranged to have a beautiful and thick layer of frost coating the world I live in this morning. His handiwork is everywhere.

I think the thing I will miss most about vacation is the time I got to spend with Kurt and Peyton: nowhere to go, nothing to do - just hang out with my best friend and our daughter.

Hawaii is beautiful - I would go back there again in a heartbeat for future vacations. (After another couple of years of saving, of course... grin) Warm. Relaxed. And I - even I! the ever-pale gal of Scottish heritage - tanned.

After an all-night flight, a 3-hour layover in Denver and then an almost 3-hour flight followed by groceries at Superstore and an hour-drive home (gasp!): when we got home last night, Kurt had to head to the barn right away to sort animals. He didn't get home until 9pm and was out of the house this morning by 5:15. In some ways it's hard to not resent that... to think cynically, "Welcome home. Yeah right."

But right now I am choosing to think about a day on the beach. The sun, the wind, the surf crashing... I watched Peyton finally get brave enough to not only walk in the sand - but help Kurt build a sand fort to try and hold back the rolling waves. I laughed as she ran to him and clung on for dear life every time one breached their defenses. Standing in the surf - the refreshingly cool water almost knocking me off my feet at times - and being in awe of the God who made it all.

I closed my eyes on that last beach day and put it all to memory - for days like this. :) Days that aren't cold or stormy - but good 'ol "real-life".

I am viewing that time for what it was - a break. A moment - really - in the broad span of my life. It was refreshing and perfect and relaxing - but not something to be coveted after on a daily basis. So I am thankful to be home with those memories - and I hope to share them soon.

I'm off to drink coffee out of my big-'ol Hawaii mug and spend some time with God before Peyton wakes up... Thanks for reading, everyone!

Anticipation

I have to say that reading Julie's updates help make me a little-less queasy about the looooong plane ride we're going to be taking in... um... counting quickly.... 25 days.
I'm not going to Mexico - but all the "warm" shots are making me somewhat excited about going to visit the sun.
Thanks Julie! :)

Happy (Belated) Easter

We took a trip to Melfort and enjoyed Peyton's first Easter with Gramma Lori and Grampa Gord.
Oh - and we went swimming. :)

We're Back! (and tanned...)

Tummy time ON mommy's tummy... (in the middle of a game of "grab my own toes and stick them in my mouth" - she invented it - I just enable...)

Enjoying time with daddy - wearing less clothes than she's ever worn in her life. :) Thanks for the hat, Sheila J - it came in SO handy and looked so cute on her!

Taken by the flight attendant on the way home (Peyton fell asleep as we were waiting to board but woke up soon after this picture).

Is it An Addiction?

... when the first thing I say to my husband in the morning is, "Did you make coffee yet?"

:)

We're back from Melfort, surviving (barely!) the cold and counting down the days to Peyton's first Christmas and our 5th since we became the first set of Manz juniors back in 2003. So hard to believe... but I'm so very thankful.

The fellow Kurt worked with at harvest just stopped by to give us chocolate (darn!) and told me that it is supposed to be horridly cold for the rest of the week. Perspective: it's -33 C. That is -27 F before windchill (which I choose to not think about...)

But on a bright note we discovered that our car does have a block heater after all - so it's chances of surviving the winter are much better now. :) We didn't really have to deal with it in Saskatoon last year because of the garage and it so happened that we never traveled anywhere when it was really cold. This year our garage is actually heated so we really hadn't thought about it... and then we had to start our car after it had sat in the driveway in Melfort for 2 days of the above-mentioned weather. I'd try to describe the sound it made, but it's really too pathetic. I'll say this for our refurbished 2005 Mazda 3: it's got a great battery.

I forgot to take pictures this weekend - but as soon as my mom-in-law sends me some I'll put a couple of them up.

And congratulations to Jessica and Jen - who both delivered healthy boys within the past week. I'm praising God for the blessings you've both received - Merry Christmas, you guys. :)

Blessings!

Mother and Daughter

This is what two hours of sleep looks like. (chuckle) She - apparently - thanks this is funny. :) She's been running a low-grade fever yesterday and today and that has affected both of our sleeps. The baby Tylenol is helping, though - for which I am very thankful.
Loving her anyway and thanking the Lord for the opportunity to go through even this mommy "rite of passage".
MORE than two hours of sleep. :) (for both of us) Just for contrast... lol!
The Snuggli trip down the street to a Norwex party. We made it even though it was cold for me - she slept great all the way there and back. You know it's a good product when a 5 minute walk knocks her out! (chuckle)

Aloha!

It's December 1st, right?
'Cause it's raining.

Hellooooo?

My sister and brother-in-law are in Hawaii.

People from Saskatchewan have one wish when they go on a "hot" vacation:

"Please, please let it be -40 while I'm there!"

Wish denied! ;)

See you soon, Dean & Amanda - we'll hold the freezing weather until you get back to enjoy it with us. :-D

Post 7 of 9 (September 28th-October 4th)

So I made it back from Regina. (Yay!)

I'm a little sore (a little more sore) and stiff from all those hours in the car and sitting at the conference. That condition wasn't helped by going straight to the field to ride around with my hubby in the truck for a few hours - but the smile on his face when he saw me more than made up for the discomfort of bouncing around on a hard seat. :)

Tomorrow is my birthday - which will probably be just another harvest day (us lucky October birthdays...) but I think I'll go ride with Kurt for some of the day. He was really feeling badly about not being able to do something with me... but I told him I'd let him make it up to me later. (chuckle)

I've been working on my hospital list today - I'm kinda paranoid we'll forget something essential when we go. We used to live only 5 minutes from the hospital - so if we had forgotten something it would have been pretty easy for Kurt to go home, or for someone to pick it up for us... but I'd like to avoid that this time around and a full-hour out of the city. I listed off some of the items I have written to Kurt who phoned a few minutes ago, and after a pause he said, "So... are you thinking you'll have to go to the hospital soon?" :) (He may be thinking about all that bouncing around in the truck last night...) I don't think so - but I guess I couldn't really rule it out, could I?

Regardless - I cannot believe we'll be at 21 days until induction tomorrow. The memories of Autumn come so clear now: my 27th birthday and her being 38 weeks along. Part of the grief is remembering how "innocent" we were. There was no clue anything so horrible could possibly happen - and yet 2 weeks later our world changed forever. Instead of rejoicing and planning her first birthday party I'm happy that her headstone has been placed... I never, never could have pictured this.

But by God's grace, the sadness of those memories has me praying daily and hourly for this little one who continues to fidget and move around to my sheer delight. Thanks for your prayers, everyone. I'm trying to continue my quest to finish Autumn's album... I've hit a little roadblock where some pictures are concerned - but that probably isn't anything I couldn't overcome by just sitting down and studying them for a while. That said: my ankles didn't respond well to the hours in the car or the truck last night - and other than a quick blog post ("quick") and some laundry I should probably avoid the whole "sitting at a desk for hours/standing up and walking around" thing. :)

BTW: I've been "tagged" by two people now (Katrina and Rachel Ann) and they are both different "tags". I am planning on doing it - it just might not be right away. But just so you both know - I'm not ignoring you (thanks for thinking of me). :)

On Another Note...

I'm off to Regina for a few days for my last nursing related event before the baby comes. It's a 4-hour drive (or 4 and 3-quarter hour drive according to google maps)- so I'm hoping to get away by 3pm so I can get there by 6 - 6:30. Not to mention drive in daylight through whitetail deer country... You should be able to click all those links and find out some extra details I'm not willing to type out right now. :)

I'm not that eager to go by myself - but the guy Kurt is working for has just over a week left for harvest (Lord willing) so he's going to stay and make sure that gets done sooner rather than later. I think he has recurring nightmares about being in a truck somewhere when my water breaks....

Anyway, I'm staying with my wonderful brother and sister in law - and there will be at least one of my coworkers there so I won't be completely by myself at the conference which should be very interesting - really. My lack of enthusiasm has more to do with the lower body discomfort and size of my belly than the content as slated in the brochure... chuckle.

Ye-gads! 34 weeks and counting....
My brother-in-law informed me they're taking me to Tony Roma's for supper... so I'll be starving myself in anticipation today. (grin)
What? It isn't like people will wonder where my appetite comes from... (chuckle)

Anyway, I should go pick out the music I'm going to listen to on my many-houred (word?) trip. Blessings, everyone!

Post 2 of 9 (August 24th-August 30th)

Hi!
Some updates:

- Blood pressure issue has really settled down. In fact, I've taken myself off the drugs. (I'm sure my doctor loathes having nurses as patients...) I can pretty much tell when I'm feeling winded/tired - and then I can make the choice to sit and be still. Today I clocked my pulse at a nice and steady 88 beats per minute. Praising God!

- Aghhh.... how can 9 (almost 8!) weeks seem like so short looking backwards and so far looking forwards?

- The 21st was a really emotional day for me. 10 months... so many milestones unreached. God gave great strength - and I am thankful.

- I'm getting baby fever. Very definite baby fever. Every little move she makes is bringing both delight, anxiety, anticipation and impatience. I want to hold our baby, alive and squirming, as soon as I can. Kurt and I were discussing who would hold her first. He will. :) (and we didn't arm-wrestle...)

- Work is really winding down. Seriously. I have only 2 more scheduled 8-hour shifts before the date of the induction. The second is the day I hope to be induced. :) It's okay, though - I'm getting really tired and sore a lot sooner than I was...

- We're kinda wrapped up in the democratic national convention right now. By "we" I mean "Kurt" and by "Kurt" I mean "us" because although he was gone last night, I found myself watching Joe Biden's speech. These one-flesh relationships are strange...

- Kurt took me away on a romantic weekend (on Monday and Tuesday) he surprised me on Monday morning by telling me to pack an overnight bag, and we went to the city where he had booked a jacuzzi suite, and a BIG steak dinner at the Keg. I was appropriately impressed. :) I love him more than ever... and that says a lot. Tuesday was doctor and dentist - still kinda romantic - but in a functional way.

- Speaking of dentist: I found the best one ever. The office looks like a spa (I know 'cause I've been to one) and the chairs have massage features, there are LCD televisions on the ceiling, and they offer complimentary parafin wax treatments while you're getting worked on. :) I love free-enterprise health care!

- I've been spending lots of hours (the free ones, that is) working on Autumn's album. It's coming along quite well. I'm really pleased with the results - and the process has been really emotional - but helpful. If I can figure out how to scan and post them in high-quality I'll do that one of these days. On one of my many upcoming days off. :)

Twenty-Five and Rider Pride

Wow!
I'm honored so many of you check the blog every day! :)
I'm actually just honored that anyone checks at all... chuckle.
Thanks for responding, friends... seriously. I thought I'd get a dozen answers. :)
A 25-week picture:And I did survive "Rain-Bowl 2008" (see last year's post...) with the rest of the Manz clan...
We took Kurt's dad and mom to a Rider game with Dean and Amanda (sans dogs) and it was a blast.
Literally.
A rainy, windy, funnel-cloud spotting, pounded with hail kind of blast. :-D Kurt and I huddled under and umbrella until it passed and then hung on until the end of the game. I'm very proud of me. More importantly - Kurt is proud of me. :)

Amanda, Dean, Kurt, moi, Dad Manz (Gord) and Mom Manz (Lori) - pregame pictures...
(Hmm... green seems to be the theme of these pictures, doesn't it? :))
Notice it is BManzII's very first game - I'm sure she's at least as excited as her mommy and daddy... chuckle)
Just in case you think I look too dry in these before game pictures - I'll tack on a wet/cold one for you to enjoy and to prove was there until the very end...Ha! Proof!
Five-and-Oh, Baby! :)

Have I Told You About...

... my brief moment as a rule-breaker? I was looking through these pictures from our Victoria Trip two (two???) summers ago.As soon as we left the room we saw the sign that forbid taking pictures.
Hmmm... obviously I didn't delete them - but I didn't take any more pictures after that. Gotta love the totem pole shot!
Do I not blend? ;)

Waskesiu

We made it back!
Some pictures to share...
Kurt in the shirt my folks brought him back from Hawaii. He's been waiting eagerly for appropriate "vacation" time to wear it. :) I had a few pictures where he was trying to blow on his own chest to simulate wind movement... but I think he wouldn't think those were okay for the blog. So instead you get the sexy "normal" pose! :)Dad, Kiley and Kurt playing football in the water. Dad likes to remind Kiley he's still bigger - Kurt just stays out of the way... (chuckle)Yours truly. I did go more into the water a few days later. I have burn... er.... tan to prove it. I felt like the most clothed person on the beach! (And it was HOT!)
Cody also managed to come up for a few days. He, Kurt and Dad spent more time in the water playing football, swimming and goofing around. On a side note (with no pictures to prove it) I also went into the water and pitched the ball around a bit. (The water is great - no risks of falls makes for worry-free play.) Later in the day, a lady came up to me and complimented me on my football skills. It was a high point for my vacation. ;-D I had to take a few Tylenol later, though. A few unused muscles were complaining about the workout...

BTW (in case anyone is wondering): I changed the baby ticker to reflect our countdown - October 24th - the day we plan to be induced. Keep praying for us - each day with this little girl carries the joy of anticipation and the anxiety of the unknown. :) We love her so much... and find tremendous comfort in the knowledge that our Lord is still knitting her together. She's super-duper strong - she is shaking my whole tummy with some kicks. My mom got a chance to feel her at Waskesiu - but she was being playful with my dad and wouldn't move at all. Funny child...
And... I think we've come up with a name. Finally. I won't be sharing until she's born - but Kurt and I have been rolling it around on our tongues for a week or so - and we think we've found one that has stuck. I wasn't sure I would be able to find a name I liked as much as Autumn - but this one really strikes me as a great name. So thankful!

Blessings and good evening...

Ask...

.. and you shall receive.
This one is for you, Victoria. :)
Baby Manz is really starting to pop out!
Kurt took this last Friday morning before I left for work... it was exactly 23 weeks. (Which in our countdown means "Only 15 weeks to go!")

And to answer some other pressing questions (via the new Mrs Robbins... grin):

Work: I've been really enjoying my new job. Homecare nursing is pretty much what I've wanted to do since I entered school... both chronic and acute care - health promoti0n, education - lots of one-on-one time with my clients. I also have an amazing bunch of coworkers - both Home Health Aides and RNs. I feel like every day I'm stretched to think and function at a new level - new approaches to each person. Individuality is really emphasized - so it is hard as an RN to get into a "pattern" of dealing with people - each situation has to be assessed and each person has to be dealt with according to those strengths and weaknesses. (That's a positive thing, by the way... chuckle.) It feels like I'm finally starting to put the pieces of the puzzle together - which - in all honesty - I wondered if it would ever happen during my four long years of university. :) But I've been super-busy! I'm thankful for that, though. One of the "consequences" of not going back to work after Autumn was born was that I needed to start all over as far as Employment Insurance goes.

- For my American friends: In Canada you pay into EI from your date of hire. You can qualify for 15 weeks maternity leave and then another 9 months of parental leave (adds up to a year) if you have 600 hours from date of hire (works out to be aproximately 6 months of work). It's only 55% of your income - or a cap of $432 a week (before taxes) - but it sure helps, and it's nice to get a year off! I got my full maternity leave with Autumn, and then we decided that it would be best for me if I waited until we moved to start working again... postpartum was just too hard to think about going back to - and even on this side I am really thankful that Kurt (and all my PP coworkers/friends) supported that decision.

So anyway - with me only being casual (no "guaranteed" hours) it is still touch-and-go to see if I will get in my 600 hours before the baby is born. I'm doing pretty well - but if my coworkers don't take any more vacation I might not get the whole amount. (That's not pressure, Norma... BIG grin...) The nice thing about being an RN is that I have work options if I had to put in some time after the baby is born. And I think I can get mat-leave even if I don't start right after the baby is born if the hours get put in somewhere. So we're not too worried about that... God has taken care of so many other details (much bigger than this) that I'm actually excited to see what He's going to do.

Another life detail: Kurt is no longer working for Topigs Canada. The hog industry in Western Canada is anything but ideal - and so the week before last he received a phone call notifying him that his contract would be terminated. Initially when he told me my stomach dropped - but in all truthfulness we were expecting it - so when the news finally came it was almost more of a relief. Strange as it seems - it probably couldn't have happened at a better time. We have no mortgage, no student loans, and it costs very little to live in Leask. Plus - praising God for this one - I don't make bad money in my profession, either.
Kurt has also had plans to build a little meat-cutting place for the last few years and this is a very good opportunity to get that off the ground. So he's been working on layout plans and trying to get that ready to take to an engineering firm so he can then work on getting quotes from various contractors to get quotes and hopefully start building.
The goal - obviously - would be to use my parents pork (perfect health! no antibiotics! no growth hormones!... sigh - my thoughts on advertising in the food industry will be saved for another day...) and - in our own way - get into the family business. Again - when Kurt and I were talking about this situation the day it happened - I told him that I'm more excited to see how God will do things than concerned He won't.

Baby news: things are going really well. I'm much more tired (and stretched out!) this pregnancy - but the 8 hour shifts (as opposed to the 12s) are easier - and so is having a life. :) Enough said. She is moving like crazy - at 22 weeks she was moving strong enough for Kurt to feel her clearly - and a few days ago she was shaking around enough to move my whole tummy. I'm not eating straight sugar to get her to do this - honest. :) Last night I was pressing my tummy (okay - uterus) and she actually moved away from my hands. Interaction! :) I can't even really describe how much joy this gives me. Part of my battle is not looking at my womb as a place of death. That sounds dramatic - but Autumn died in the supposedly-safest place in the world. Each movement of this little girl causes my heart to lift heavenward in praise and petition. For the most part, God has given consistent periods of peace - and the truth to fight the fears when they come. I still appreciate your prayers so much - so thank you to everyone who brings us to Jesus - He is still proving to be so very strong.

Vacation:
Yaaaayyyyyyy!

Ahem
...

One of the upsides of working a lot is that a vacation is just that. A break! :) I'm going to sit on the beach - or in the cabin if it is raining - and read books. I'm going to talk to my mom and dad - cuddle with Kurt and sleep in. And - by golly - I'm going to glorify God for the opportunity. :) We're going to Waskesiu (national park in northern SK) where my family has gone almost every year since I was about 12 - and - for the record - I'm going to love it. We stay here, by the way. My parents are up there now, and Kiley and Jessica are going up for a couple of nights with her parents who are out visiting, and my wonderful in-laws are watching Oscar for us.
Kurt had to help Kiley with some stuff at the farm today - but we're planing on meeting Gord and Lori in Prince Albert to exchange Oscar by 5 tonight - so that gives me the day to pack and tidy before we go.
I'm excited. No... more than that. I'm thrilled!!! :)

Renovations: most of everything is done - but we're waiting for the counter tops and my drapes. Both were back-ordered. (Downside of living within the single booming economy in the country - Ugh...) But as soon as they're both installed I will put up detailed before and after pictures. I promise!

Okay - I need to go spend some time reading my bible, talking to God, and planning for the rest of the day. Thanks for your patience, everyone. I'm amazed that the visitor counter still moves... chuckle. :) My work schedule isn't quite as busy for the next few weeks (so far) so I hope to post a little more often.

Blessings!
